I don't know why I'm so excited about this, but today we discovered that Camilla has her first tooth. Maybe it's just nice to know your kid isn't defective and is growing the things she's supposed to grow. For months now, everybody has been asking us if she's teething. She has a runny nose? Oh, she must be teething. Pulling on her ears? Oh, that's teething all right. Putting everything in her mouth? It's gotta be teething. Truthfully, I think she just gets sick sometimes, thinks her ears are delightful to play with, and wants to taste the world around her. She's never acted like her gums hurt, and she only occasionally gnaws on stuff.
Camilla also got her first ear infection this weekend. After a horrible trip the doctor's office, I was a little relieved to know something was really wrong with her because they sort of treat you like an idiot. (Oh, your kid has a cold, huh? You need to use saline spray and an aspirator. Oh you do that. Well then you need to get a humidifier. Oh, you do that too? Hmmm, well make sure she sleeps with her head elevated. She rolls to the bottom of her bed? Well try harder.) They dug around in her ears forever, pricked her finger for blood work (we were both in tears), and were shocked to discover there really was an ear infection. She hates medicine, but the good news is we've been keeping her well-dosed with Tylenol. I can only imagine how miserable the poor little kid was with an ear infection AND a tooth trying to pop through.

Hooray! Teeth are great, as long as they learn not to bite you while nursing.
