We're having a. . .

GIRL!!

So we've been asked frequently over the past few months whether we were hoping for a boy or a girl. I think it's sort of a terrible question. Not because it's such an awful thing to hope for one or the other. It's just that the more you have to answer it, the more convinced you are that you've got it figured out. And when you find out you're wrong, where does that leave you? So please everybody, don't ask me if I'm disappointed that we were completely wrong. We figured it would be a boy. Mark has even been reading The Complete Calvin and Hobbes to prepare for parenthood of a possibly precocious little boy. (Three huge volumes, one volume per trimester.) It took me a minute to register what the technician meant when she said, "It's a girl!" because I didn't understand most of what she was saying anyways. But yes, it's clearly a girl in there sloshing around in my belly.

I'm mostly excited that now we can move forward with things. Picking a name (which will be SO much easier than it would have been with a boy). Buying stuff. Deciding what we really need and what we can live without in our tiny apartment. Figuring out how to stuff a carseat into the backseat of our car.

Also, for the record, I have no intention of having a "Little Princess". Please don't try to convince me that I'm wrong about that, and I'll ignore the little smirks behind my back that suggest I'm naive and will understand some day soon. That's just the way it needs to be.

I love you, but I'm smirking, only because I said the exact same thing to our family members when we found out Chayce was a girl. Just smirking though, I pray you are successful in keeping her princess-free. ;)

Good luck! My mom wanted me to be a princess, and look how that turned out. She still likes me though.....

I am totally cracking up! I made Skyler promise me that he wouldn't call Savannah "Sissy or Sister," all I got out of it was that he wouldn't do that until she has a sibling, then we have to re-think it. I'm NOT changing my mind!

Your little girl will be adorable! She will melt your heart no matter the nickname!

Congrats!!!! I don't know anything about princesses...so I think you'll do great raising her just how you want. :)

Yay! A girl! That's funny because I did the EXACT same thing with we were having Audrey. Really wanted a boy, thought it was boy, was totally shocked when it turned out to be a girl, started to like the idea about 15 minutes later . . . I find out what we're having TODAY and I'm not sure how to feel. I just want to know so I can start "moving forward" with things too. :) I'm so excited, though, about your news!! Let us know your name when you pick one out.

I'm so excited for you! I obviously love little girls. THey are more fun to dress than boys and we agree - they are so much easier to name! Boys names are hard. Can't wait to finally talk to you one of these days. ANy chance you'll be in Ontario for Christmas????

The princess comment made me laugh only because I'm right there with you. One of my sisters has two girls and I don't think her first girl wore anything BUT pink, red, and/or purple until Kaitlyn was 2 years old. I can only handle so much frilly and pink before its no longer cute. Have fun picking out names, too! It's easier for me to think of girl names that I like more than boy names, too.

Hey, Jenny!

I completely am there with you on the princess bit. We're having a girl in about five weeks (well, she's due then, anyway), and I have stayed faaar away from any clothing that says "Mommy's little cupcake" or anything of the sort. No crowns, no princess anything. I feel like I'm setting her up for brathood if I do that. Is she precious to us? Yes. Is she our little darling, and will she be the center of attention? Of course, and for good reason. But no princess-y things, thank you very much.
