Pandoro

Every year at Christmastime, Mark starts reminiscing about Pandoro. It's an Italian holiday cake that you coat with powdered sugar. We have tried to find it all over the place, but the closest you can get in the US is usually Panettone. It's sort of similar, and apparently more popular with Americans since we've found it almost everywhere. But it's apparently just not quite the same. When we were in Italy we bought a chocolate-filled Pandoro to eat on New Year's Eve. It made Mark pretty happy, and he was excited for me to get to try it. (It was good.) But we haven't had any since.

Imagine my surprise when I came across this little beauty in Tops the other day:
I couldn't remember whether this was the one Mark had been looking for or not, but they were trying to get rid of them to the tune of $.25 each. Usually about ten times that amount for these mini-cakes. A large one is usually about $10-15. So I bought eight of them. And we feasted for dessert.
We decided it was a good thing that we only ate one a piece. Upon close inspection of the Nutrition Facts, we learned that one of these little babies has 320 Calories, 25% of your daily value of fat, 50% of your daily value of saturated fat, and 30% of your daily value of Cholesterol. Worth it? Probably not, but Mark went back today to buy eight more. So if we gain a bit of weight over the next few weeks or months (or days), you'll know why.

Maybe we should come over to help you eat them.
