Galveston

Friday was our 6th anniversary. Having really no options for getting a babysitter and going out to eat a nice dinner with just the two of us, we opted to take a family trip to Galveston the next day instead. I had been there many years ago, but a lot has changed. There is only one shop left built out onto a pier, and even that was rebuilt after Hurricane Ike hit and destroyed so much of the city a few years ago. We weren't sure if Camilla would like the beach since every kid seems to react differently to the sand and the waves. It was fun to discover that she LOVES it. We hadn't really planned to swim since we haven't heard good reports of the beach in Galveston in recent years. However, it really wasn't bad, and we wanted to go wading. The water was bathwater warm, and the breeze blowing in off of the Gulf felt wonderful. Camilla walked right in, and refused to let us hold her hands. Inevitably, she fell over and got her dress soaked every time a tiny wave rolled in and threw off her balance. It's hard to tell from the pictures that she was so happy. She gets really focused on something and zones out, and that's a good indication that the activity is acceptable to her. I included a video at the end, which showcases a moment of her bliss. We'll definitely be coming back to the beach, but better stocked with swimming suits, towels, appropriate footwear, and a couple of gallons of water to rinse all the sand off of us when we get away from the beach.

How cute is that red dress?! I love it. She looks like a peanuts character in it.
